IC Realtime Featured in WIRED's Security Camera Review

November 6, 2026 | By

IC Realtime's professional surveillance cameras were featured in WIRED's review of subscription-free security solutions, highlighting onboard AI detection, secure local recording, and advanced security capabilities.

As homeowners increasingly look for security solutions that prioritize privacy, local video storage, and freedom from recurring subscription fees, WIRED recently examined the growing market for subscription-free security cameras, including professional surveillance solutions from IC Realtime.

In its coverage, WIRED technology reviewer Simon Hill explored how locally recorded surveillance systems are becoming increasingly capable, offering advanced features that previously relied heavily on cloud-based services.

As part of the review, Hill tested several IC Realtime products, including the IPMX-E40F-W2 and IPFX-D80V-IRW3 dome cameras, along with a bullet camera and video doorbell. The review recognized the quality of IC Realtime's hardware, its onboard artificial intelligence capabilities, and the security benefits of pairing cameras with a network video recorder (NVR).

Unlike cloud-dependent security cameras that require footage to be uploaded to remote servers, locally recorded surveillance systems allow video to be stored directly on dedicated hardware. This approach can provide greater control over sensitive recordings while reducing dependence on ongoing cloud storage subscriptions.

The article also highlighted how artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly available in locally managed security systems. Onboard AI detection enables cameras to identify relevant activity without requiring every event to be processed through a remote cloud service.

While WIRED praised IC Realtime's camera performance and security capabilities, the publication also noted that the systems carry a higher price point and offer more advanced functionality than most typical residential users require.

That distinction reflects IC Realtime's focus on professional-grade surveillance technology, where system reliability, recording capabilities, advanced detection, and installation flexibility are important considerations for integrators and their customers.

Beyond individual camera performance, the WIRED feature explored the broader advantages and trade-offs of local video storage, including privacy, long-term costs, system security, and the importance of protecting recordings against hardware failure or physical theft.

As interest in subscription-free surveillance continues to grow, the coverage highlights the expanding role of local recording and onboard intelligence in modern security systems, alongside the different needs of consumer and professionally installed solutions.
